Pyrmont-Ultimo
Pyrmont before and after redevelopment
Between 1939 and 1945, World War 2 had changed the Pyrmont area. The ports were carrying war supplies and when the war had ended, it had become the main entry to Australia for post-war migrants. This had changed the people's perspective on manufacturing and this began to decline as the manufacturing activities moved to the suburbs.
In 1984, the state government began a program to redevelop the area. By 1988, the newly-developed area of Darling Harbour Precinct was made to be the central part of Australian Bicentennial celebrations.
In 1992, the City West Development Corporation aimed to increase the residential population and workforce in Pyrmont so they began the task of redeveloping the Pyrmont-Ultimo area by developing useful facilities for residents and the workforce.
